We Were Not Alone

by mrtrivia ~ April 10, 2009

Hi Zeities,

This is a reminder of the 1971 Gerry Anderson tv show, UFO. This is the very cool, very stylish, very dated opening sequence of the series. Anderson made the live-action series SPACE 1999 after this. If you want to know a little more, read the entry in my other blog.

Many Aussies love Mel Doyle (left)

Zeitgeisters,

I was talking to my social networking buddy kwylo yesterday about Twitter. We also work together so we can converse in sentences of more than 140 characters. He is a dedicated follower of a number of famous people. I explained that I don’t use my regular Twitter for this, I have an alter ego (and yes one’s alter ego can have an alter ego of its own) that I use to follow the famous. I follow three poeple I know personally on that Twitter and the rest are MC Hammer, actor Kevin Pollack, Jane Fonda and those of that ilk.

Rewatching the Watchmen

by mrtrivia ~ March 14, 2009

watchmen

Watchmen screenwriter* David Hayter wants fanboys and fangirls to see Watchmen for a second time. This is the movie’s second weekend in the US (and here in OZ) and it looks like it will stiff – comparatively speaking. Apparently it’s pulled in US $92 million, but adverse reviews and word-of-mouth will stop it from having that huge second weekend that a movie needs to be a true blockbuster. And a film as expensive to make as this one ($120 million) really does need to pull in the big moolah. Read the rest of this entry »

Eurasian of the Week

Zeitgeisters,

Kirk Hammett of Metallica is the Eurasian of the Week. Why? Because I say so. There doesn’t need to be another reason. Kelly Hu, Mark Decascos, Lexa Doig, Kirk Hammett. Sheesh, the merit is OBVIOUS. But if you need a reason, Kirk Hammett is Eurasian of the Week because he ROCKS!

Marketing Can Make Anything Lame

by mrtrivia ~ March 8, 2009

Crap or Not? Decide for yourselves and follow the links.

Hi Zeities,

Virgin Mobile had a cool idea. Get Vanilla Ice (aka Robbie Van Winkle) to apologise on video about his musical career. Stick it on YouTube and then encourage us to go to a site called rightmusicwrongs.org. When you get there you find a chart of questionable music drawn from the last 30 years or so. Milli Vanilli makes number 1, Peter Andre is up there and the Crazy Frog.

There’s probably some kind of lame competition and prizes if one delves into it further, but I was annoyed with their presumption and cynicism, so I didn’t bother – at first. But after a few minutes, I did look into it a little further it turned out to be a front for a philanthropic organisation dedicated to clean water and fighting poverty.

Nah. It was all about selling Virgin.

Questionable music, hilariously bad lyrics and artists who are clueless about their presentation. It’s exactly the kind of thing that we’ve been riffing about with our friends, or blogging about on the www forever. And now Virgin Mobile wants to be part of the gag is here to ‘officalise’ the laffs and hence make it LAME.

Thanks Virgin Mobile for trying to get hip, with it, ‘down’. They ‘feel’ us. This is how they ‘roll’. They’re Virgin and except for a multi-million dollar a year telecommunications business and a giant marketing department coming up with chuckle-head ideas like this one, they ARE us.

It’s like looking into a frikkin’ mirror.

P.S. Virgin Mobile Marketing Department – No, you can’t be our friend. Buzz off.
P.P.S. This may seem like brilliant bit of anti-marketing, but no, stupidly I want to be fair as well as ranty.
