I'm not sure about your reading of Hillsey. He's happy enough to work blue and sharp when not on S&S and he's usually the smartest person on the show. He already had a section about "Dad Jokes" in his stand up anyway. I think he plays S&S like Roy & HG: always keep the ball moving forward and don't negate anyone else's jokes. It brings me out in a kind of sad nostalgia for the Doug Anthony All Stars - which makes me a typical older Australian Gen Xer. ("Gather 'round kids - there used to be an hilarious groundbreaking trio of comedians called DAAS. No Jayden, you're thinking of Tripod - not the same thing at all...)
